How To Keep Teeth Gums Healthy

Do you have good oral hygiene? Do you keep your teeth and gums in tip-top condition?
I used to be lazy where oral care is concerned. For example, I would brush my teeth in the morning, but I rarely brushed at night. Flossing was also never a habit. I didn't like using mouthwash either because it would burn my mouth.
Well, a few nights turned into weeks, which then turned into months, and then turned into years. It became a longstanding bad habit. Last week, a visit to the dentist revealed that I had a few dental decays in my molars. It made me realized the importance of cleaning my teeth every day and thereafter helped me making the habit of good oral care.
Today's dental care may be helping us to keep our teeth in good condition for longer, but poor gum care can still be our dental downfall. Signs of early-stage gum disease, such as gingivitis and periodontitis, can begin to appear as early as your 20s. The bad news in the prevalence goes up with age. Gum disease has become the main reason people lose their teeth. Other contributing causes of tooth loss include clenching or grinding, poor nutrition, certain medications, and genetics. High-risk groups include seniors, smokers, people who are immunocompromised and type 2 diabetics.
If you want to get rid of these teeth gums disease then following these simple tips, which will help you to keep your teeth gums healthy.

  • Brush at least twice a day especially after eating sweets.
  • Avoid sipping on sugared drinks over long periods of time.
  • Quit smoking

Natural Remedies for Healthy Gums

In addition to the brushing your teeth at least twice a day, flossing often and visiting your dentist regularly for professional cleanings and check-ups, a number of natural remedies may also help you achieve healthy gums and fend off gum disease.
Here's a look at some natural remedies said to promote healthy gums:

  •  Cranberry
Some research shows that cranberry may help thwart gum disease by preventing bacteria from sticking to your teeth.

  • Oil Pulling
It involves swishing a tablespoon of oil ( such as coconut oil or sesame oil ) around your mouth for about 15 minutes at a time. Research on oil pulling indicated that it may help reduce plaque buildup and offer some protection against gingivitis.

  • Neem
Another ayurvedic remedy, neem is a plant found to possess antibacterial properties, which makes it effective in reducing plaque and inhibiting gingivitis.
